Dispose of used tires, hazardous waste at upcoming Cass County event

Cass County residents in need of a cost effective way to properly dispose of used tires and hazardous waste are in luck. The Cass County Used Passenger Tire and Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will take place on Wednesday, April 24, from 3-6 p.m., at the Cass County Road Commission located at 340 N. O’Keefe St., Cassopolis.

With proof of Cass County residency, residents can drop off used tires from cars, pickup trucks, and other vehicles at no cost. The road commission will continue to accept tires until 6 p.m. or until two trailers are loaded. No semi- or tractor tires will be accepted.

In addition, residents may also dispose of up to 300 pounds of solid waste materials ranging from chemicals to electronics, free of charge. After 300 pounds, there will be a charge of $1.74 per pound.

A wide variety of home materials can be dropped off including aerosol sprays, ammonia, batteries (all types), carpet cleaners, CFL and LED bulbs, chlorine bleach, drain cleaners, dyes, explosives, floor care and wax, furniture polish, lamp oils, moth balls and flakes, oven cleaners, scouring powders, smoke detectors, spot and stain removers, spray dust cleaners, upholstery cleaners.

Acceptable garage materials include 2-cycle gas mixes, antifreeze, brake fluid, car wax, compressed gas cylinders, degreasers, diesel fuel, engine cleaners, fiberglass epoxy, gas/diesel additives, gasoline, metal polishes, paints, cleaning supplies, and garden chemicals.
