Glen Oaks Community College appoints next president

Dr. Bryan Newton

Dr. Bryan Newton has been named the new president of Glen Oaks Community College. Newton will succeed longtime President Dr. David Devier, who is retiring.

A Wor-Wic Community College (Maryland) vice president for enrollment management and student services, Newton has held leadership positions at two other community colleges in South Carolina and Indiana.

A graduate of Colorado State University, The Ohio State University College of Law, and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Newton has served in various roles in fundraising, human resources, legislative advocacy, marketing, and political advocacy. He was also a chair of the Maryland Chief Student Affairs Officers Group, and an active member of the American Association of Community Colleges.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen as the next president of Glen Oaks Community College,” Newton said.

“I plan to build on the excellent work of Dr. Devier and work together with Glen Oaks Community College employees and our students to continue the tradition of excellence they have established. The college plays a vital role in the educational and economic development of St. Joseph’s County, and I look forward to working with business and industry, government officials, secondary institutions, and other partners to continue to grow the college and the region.”

Newton will assume the position of president July 22, and will live in the Nora Hagan House.
