Boil water advisory issued in Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department has issued a boil water advisory for water intended for drinking, ingestion or any consumptive use for residents in certain sections of West Vine and Davis Streets.

The city says it is repairing water infrastructure on Race Street which resulted in a temporary loss of pressure. This advisory is precautionary only, according to officials, as there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main at the location of the infrastructure repair. The affected area includes:

West Vine Street – From Locust Place (eastern boundary), west to the dead end of West Vine Street (western boundary), both sides of the roadway. It does not include the northeast corner of West Vine Street and Davis Street.

Davis Street – It ONLY includes the northwest corner and southwest corner of Davis Street and West Vine Street.

Locust Place – From West Vine Street (northern boundary) to Village Street (southern boundary) both sides of the roadway.

Initial sampling results are expected within 24 hours with a final set of results expected within 48 hours. It is expected the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours (May 24).

Kalamazoo County Health recommends that residents use bottled water for consumptive purposes or boil their tap water for two minutes prior to use. No special precautions are necessary for water used for personal hygiene.

City of Kalamazoo employees may be tasked with obtaining samples directly from customers.
