A 28-year-old Buchanan woman was injured in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 22, when her vehicle struck a tree in the roadway and another off the road in Wayne Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Ashley Smith was traveling eastbound on Marcellus Highway at approxapproximately 1:35 a.m. when she tried to avoid a tree in the roadway, which she was unable to do in time. After striking the tree in the road, Smith lost control of her vehicle, careening to the left before striking another tree.

Smith was transported to Niles Hospital with minor injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt during the crash, and alcohol nor drugs are considered factors. The incideincident remains under investigation.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Tribal Police, Wayne Fire, and SMCAS Ambulance.
