A Cassopolis man was injured Wednesday evening after he hit a deer with his motorcycle in La Grange Township.

Brian Herthoge, 52, was riding his motorcycle south on O’Keefe Street north of Fox Street when a deer entered the roadway. Herthoge hit the deer, and lost control of his motorcycle, which continued southbound on its left side for about 500 yards before coming to a stop in the northbound lane.

Herthoge was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. He was not wearing a helmet during the crash, and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.

SMACAS Ambulance and Cass Fire Department assisted Cass County Sheriff deputies at the scene.
