Three people were taken to the hospital after a Sunday crash on the M62 Highway and Indian Lake Road in Silver Creek Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Daniel French, 49, Dowagiac, was driving eastbound on M62 at approximately 12:31 p.m. Sunday. At the same time, a vehicle traveling northbound on Indian Lake Road failed to yield the right of way. This caused French, attempting to avoid a traffic crash, to strike an embankment.

Two passengers in French’s vehicle, 11-year-old Lucas French, and 12-year-old Emily French, were also taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital with injuries.

Daniel, Emily, and Lucas French were all wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to police. The crash is still under investigation.

The Indian Lake Fire Department and Pokagon Tribal Police assisted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
