One person was injured after rear-ending another vehicle that had stopped for a left turn on U.S. 12 in Milton Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. Friday, August 9, on U.S. 12 near Anderson Road. Leona Ledell, 72, Chicago, was driving westbound on U.S. 12 when she rear-ended Autumn Nussel, 29, Elkhart, Indiana, who was stopped trying to turn left from westbound U.S. 12.

Nussel had two other passengers in her vehicle at the time of the crash. They were Lisa Klopenstine, 56, Elkhart, and a juvenile. Ledell was taken to Lakeland/Corwell Health Niles Hospital for her injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to police. The crash remains under investigation. Assisting agencies on scene were Edwardsburg Ambulance and Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police.
