Glen Oaks Community College in final stages of comprehensive compensation study

Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC), Centreville, has embarked on a comprehensive compensation study aimed at enhancing its ability to attract and retain top talent. The study is being conducted by Evergreen Solutions LLC and will evaluate the college’s compensation structures and classification systems.

The compensation study has four key phases, including gathering data from employees through forums and an online survey, reviewing existing data, conducting market surveys, and developing solutions. The outreach process has already begun, with 55 employees participating in virtual focus group sessions and an online survey.

According to the college, the study highlights strengths of GOCC, such as its generous benefits and strong campus culture, while also identifying areas for improvement, particularly in compensation for some positions. A market survey conducted by the study found that salary range spreads varied significantly at GOCC, with 34 positions showing positive market range penetration and 10 positions falling behind.

Based on the findings of the market survey, Evergreen Solutions LLC has provided several recommendations for GOCC, which include implementing a market-responsive pay plan with 15 pay grades, adjusting range spreads and midpoint progressions to align more closely with market standards, and adopting classification recommendations to better align with job analysis and task (JAT) processes.

The “Hybrid Parity” option has been preferred as the preferred approach for implementing the recommended pay plan. This option acknowledges both total tenure and time spent in the current classification when considering salary adjustments for the affected positions.

GOCC will finalize the recommendations and develop a comprehensive report after the study is complete. The college will also notify employees of the changes and update job descriptions to reflect the new classification system.
