Sturgis is moving to an new emergency alerting software effective October 1. On that day, the city will no longer be using Nixle.

“The new program will allow residents to sign up for emergency alerts as well as opt-in for additional community event information,” the City of Sturgis announced Wednesday.

In order to ensure residents are not left in the dark, the city is urging people to sign up for one or both of two options.

Alert details commonly include information about severity, urgency, certainty and the event category.
