A 26-year-old Dowagiac man was injured Monday after he lost control of his vehicle and drove into a cornfield on M51 Highway and Thompson Road in Pokagon Township.

Joshua Jessup was taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital for his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened at about 12:09 p.m. Monday. Deputies say Jessup was driving northbound on M51 when he lost control of his vehicle, crossing the center line of the road into the cornfield.

The crash is currently under investigation. Pokagon Township Fire Department, Niles Volunteer Firefighters, and SMCAS Ambulance all responded to the scene.
