Kalamazoo City Commission: September 3

The Kalamazoo City Commission met Tuesday, September 3 and took several actions:

Commissioners approved a contract with Waste Management of Michigan for the rental, placement, and removal of roll-off containers used for street sweeping. The contract is in the amount of $410,025.

Approval of contracts with Alexander Chemical Corp. and Detroit Salt Company LC through the MiDeal Cooperative Purchasing Program allowed the city to purchase sodium hexametaphosphate and seasonal road salt, respectively. The Alexander contract is for $162,393, and the Detroit Salt contract is for $181,450. The Kalamazoo commissioners also approved a $453,000 contract with Santiago Services for nuisance trash and debris handling.

The commission also approved a professional service agreement with Prein & Newhof for the design of an expansion of the Kalamazoo regional water system. The agreement is in the amount of $987,600.

Tuesday’s meeting also featured a public hearing regarding the approval of a resolution for comments on an application for a Commercial Redevelopment Exemption Certificate at 5135 and 5147 Portage Road. After the hearing, the resolution was adopted.

Additionally, a public hearing to receive comments on an ordinance and resolution approving an amendment to a final development plan and agreement was held. The hearing concerned the Friendship Village Planned Unit Development, located at 1400 and 1402 N. Drake Road, and the western 1,440 feet of 4300 Beech Ave. Ultimately, a motion to adopt was successful.
