The Board of Education (BOE) has set the date for school to begin at Three Rivers Community Schools (TRCS) for September 8 and has formally adopted its “Return to Learn” plan, which it spent most of the summer developing. The plan governs the structure, procedures, and rules under which schools will address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while providing instruction at all K-12 grade levels.

Additional thefts were reported over the weekend in southern St. Joseph County, including the theft of a 1989 Jeep Wrangler, which was stolen from a barn in White Pigeon Township early Saturday morning.
Kathy Greaves, Democratic candidate for Second District County Commissioner, will face Republican incumbent Kathy Pangle in the general election.
As a result of the investigation, over 140 cats ranging from newborn to adult cats were seized from the inside the home. It took officials several hours to capture the animals. Several of the cats appeared to have health issues and will be evaluated by animal control staff and other professionals. It was determined that two of cats needed to be euthanized immediately.
With help from the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority, Venue 45 and Kelsey Block Brewing Company are considering establishing an “outdoor social zone,” which permits two or more businesses with active liquor licenses to create an adjacent, common zone with outdoor seating.

Following a request by City Attorney J. Patrick O’Malley, Three Rivers City Commissioners voted Monday to retain special counsel regarding two marijuana-related petitions. O’Malley said the firm of Miller Canfield is handling a number of such petitions around the state, which would place permitting marijuana establishments in cities on local November election ballots.
