A 28-year-old Marcellus man was caught trying to smuggle narcotics into St. Joseph County Jail early Monday morning but his efforts proved unsuccessful.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, February 7, deputies form the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were patrolling the area of Broadway and Constantine Street in Three Rivers. It’s there that deputies located a vehicle with an equipment violation, and conducted a traffic stop. The driver had an outstanding warrant and a suspended drivers license, so he was arrested and lodged at St. Joseph County Jail.

To make matters worse, upon being lodged at the jail it was discovered the 28-year-old was trying to smuggle meth into the jail. Charges including possession of meth, smuggling contraband into the jail, and driving on a suspended license are being sought.
