Three Rivers Area Community Foundation’s outgoing executive director recognized

The Three Rivers Area Community Foundation has announced the end of an era as longtime Executive Director Melissa Bliss steps down after leading the organization since 2011. The announcement comes as the Three Rivers area foundation merges with the Sturgis Area Community Foundation, effective January 1, 2025.
Under Bliss’s leadership, the Three Rivers Area Community Foundation has grown significantly, increasing its assets from $1 million to $5 million. Her tenure is marked by key contributions to community projects like the Three Rivers Sports Complex and the local trail system. Bliss also fostered partnerships with organizations such as the Three Rivers Rotary Club, leading to collaborations like scholarships presented on Honors Night.
Bliss played a vital role in raising awareness of the foundation’s mission through events, partnerships, and initiatives for lasting impact.

Beyond her role in the foundation’s growth, Bliss was instrumental in establishing sound policies and procedures for long-term sustainability. She also actively recruited board members who shared her vision, cultivating a dedicated leadership team.
Although Bliss is stepping down as executive director, she will continue to serve the community as a member of the foundation’s Board of Directors.
“As we move forward with this merger, we are excited about the future and are thankful that Melissa will continue to be a part of it in a new capacity,” Trammell said. “Her legacy will continue to inspire us all.”
The merger between the Three Rivers and Sturgis Area Community Foundations is a significant step for both organizations. The combined foundation will be poised for even greater success in serving both communities, building upon the strong foundation laid by Melissa Bliss during her time as executive director.

Michigan lawmaker explores changes to public notice rules, raising transparency concerns
Municipalities pay newspapers to publish these notices, with costs varying based on the number and length of postings.
According to recent Three Rivers City Commission agenda packets, the city paid $740 to the Three Rivers Commercial-News for fiscal year 2026 public notices. A separate payment of $290 for the same category was recorded February 13.
If lawmakers pursue changes, they could alter where and how notices are published, potentially shifting some requirements away from newspapers. However, state Rep. Sarah Lightner (R-Springport) has said she is not seeking to eliminate public notice requirements altogether.
