Sturgis seeks applicants for 2nd Precinct city commissioner vacancy

Commissioner Rodger Moyer announced earlier this month that he will resign at the end of April due to relocating outside of his district.

The City of Sturgis is inviting residents of the city’s 2nd Precinct to apply for an open seat on the Sturgis City Commission.

The position, which will be filled by appointment, is open to registered voters residing in the 2nd Precinct. Interested individuals must submit a detailed application package to be considered. Commissioner Rodger Moyer announced earlier this month that he will resign at the end of April due to relocating outside of his district.

Applicants are required to confirm their voter registration status in the 2nd Precinct, which can be verified by contacting the City Clerk’s office at (269) 651-2321.

In addition to basic personal information — including name, address, phone number, employer, and employer contact details— candidates must submit a short essay explaining their interest in the position. A resume, references, relevant qualifications, and disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest are also requested.

Completed applications must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office at 130 N. Nottawa, Sturgis, MI 49091. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 4 p.m.

The appointed commissioner will serve as the voice of the 2nd Precinct, helping shape local policy and community initiatives as part of the Sturgis City Commission.
