The Sturgis City Commission said goodbye to Second Precinct Commissioner Rodger Moyer during its meeting Wednesday night, who is stepping down after moving out of the district.

Moyer announced his resignation last month, and Wednesday was his final day as a city commissioner. City Manager Andrew Kuk told Watershed Voice that commissioners and city staff took time to share their appreciation and congratulate Moyer on his service to the community.

During the meeting, residents raised several concerns during public comment. One citizen spoke about a lack of parking on Laurel Street and Franks Avenue, while another highlighted traffic issues at East Avenue and Griffin Street. Kuk said city officials will investigate both matters and assess potential solutions.

In other business, the commission approved a budget amendment to purchase a training mannequin for the Sturgis Fire Department. The $20,044.68 purchase will be funded through the Ambulance Fund’s revenue and expense line.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of a 2017 20-ton Talbert trailer from James Ware Construction in the amount of $13,500.
