Reader submitted content: Constitutional Crisis March draws 100 protesters in Paw Paw
Reader Ann Burch recaps a Constitutional Crisis protest that took place in downtown Paw Paw over the weekend. Burch reports that $300 was raised for a food pantry at the United Methodist Church in Lawrence.

About 100 people gathered in downtown Paw Paw Saturday for a Constitutional Crisis protest. Hosted by Indivisible Southwest Michigan, the group met at the Van Buren County Courthouse parking lot in Paw Paw before marching to Michigan Street.
Organizers said about $300 was raised for the food pantry at the United Methodist Church in Lawrence, which experienced cuts from the United States Department of Agriculture via the Feeding America program.
“Trump and his administration are just ignoring the checks and balances by going around the Supreme Court, defying court orders, and ignoring the things that Congress has already done,” said Anne Hawkinson, an organizer of the event.
Indivisible SWM is committed to helping area organizations affected by the recent Trump administration budget cuts. The U.S. Department of Agriculture budget has been cut by $1 billion in federal funding, which will impact local food banks and pantries, as well as school breakfast and lunch programs.
“These cuts have significant ramifications for those relying on these programs, including individuals experiencing hunger, food banks, and farmers,” said an Indivisible SWM spokesperson.
The next march is planned for Saturday, June 14 in Paw Paw. The “No Kings” March will be a joint nationwide protest as a Day of Defiance on Flag Day during President Trump’s birthday parade.
