Glen Oaks Community College names Devin Wilburn new athletic director

The search was prompted by the retirement of Joel Mishler, who had served as Athletic Director since July 2022 and retired effective June 30, 2025.

Glen Oaks Community College has appointed Devin Wilburn as its new Athletic Director. Wilburn will relocate with his family from Muncie, Indiana, and begin overseeing all aspects of the college’s athletic programs, including recruitment, coaching support, athletic compliance, and student-athlete development.

Wilburn joined the college on Monday, August 26 as a sports administrator with experience in coaching and program leadership. He emphasizes bringing energy and vision to leadership of Viking Athletics.

“I’m honored to be joining Glen Oaks at such an exciting time,” Wilburn said. “This college has a strong tradition of student success, and I look forward to working with the coaches, staff and student-athletes to build on that foundation and continue growing Viking athletics.”

Wilburn previously held coaching and administrative roles at Taylor University and Ball State University. He earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Ball State University.

Glen Oaks leadership expressed enthusiasm about his appointment.

“Devin’s positive energy, leadership experience and passion for athletics will be great assets to our players and our athletic program,” said Tonya Howden, Vice President for Student Services. “We’re excited to welcome him to the Viking family and look forward to the impact he will have in elevating student-athlete success and team development.”

The search was prompted by the retirement of Joel Mishler, who had served as Athletic Director since July 2022 and retired effective June 30, 2025.

Glen Oaks currently fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, golf, and volleyball. The college competes in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
