Nottawa Gas Zoning Application Sees Opposition in Park Township

Neighbors are organizing in opposition to a proposed propane business on Highway M-60 near Fisher Lake. Nottawa Gas, which is currently located between Nottawa and Colon, is considering purchase of a 14-acre parcel of land on the west side of the highway between North Fisher Lake Road and Wilson Boulevard. Neighbors fear the development will negatively impact their property values and quality of life.

Motorcyclist Arrested After U.S.-131 Pursuit

In a press release Wednesday, St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite reported that Sheriff’s Deputies pursued a motorcyclist before taking him into custody Tuesday evening. At around 6:30 p.m., the deputies attempted to stop the motorcycle for a traffic violation on U.S. Highway 131 near Wilbur Road in Lockport Township.

COVID Cases Emerge at White Pigeon Junior/Senior High School

In a letter Tuesday, administrators at White Pigeon Junior/Senior High School announced that two individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 at the school. Administrators have decided to close the school building to in-person learning, instead commencing with all virtual learning starting on Wednesday, October 14.

Streetlight Contract Approved for Tamarac

The Lockport Township Trustees approved a contract Monday evening governing the operation of streetlights in the Tamarac subdivision. The light bill is to be paid by the township under a special assessment approved over the summer.

Scholarship Applications Open at Glen Oaks

In a pair of press releases issued Monday, Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC) announced that applications are open for several scholarships. They include the 2020-21 Presidential and Dean Scholarships as well as scholarships from the Glen Oaks Community College Foundation. Specific eligibility requirements apply to some of the scholarships.

Downtown Music Draws a Crowd

A new outdoor music event in downtown Three Rivers drew a full audience this past weekend. Backstage Bash 2020 was organized by the Riviera Theatre and the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Program (TRDDA). It took place Saturday afternoon and evening on a temporarily closed section of Railroad Drive behind the theatre. Featuring four music acts, it served as a fundraiser for this year’s upcoming Christmas Around Town.

George Endorsed by Governor Whitmer

First District County Commission candidate Andrew George announced earlier this week that he has received the endorsement of Governor Gretchen Whitmer. George’s campaign received word of the endorsement by email from a gubernatorial staffer on Tuesday.

Deputies Respond to Armed Robbery
