At its regular Monday meeting, the Lockport Township Board of Trustees authorized Township Supervisor Mark Major to sign onto an agreement with the City of Three Rivers and Clark Logistics regarding the development of a property on North Main Street.
Following the seizure of more than 150 domestic cats from a hoarding situation over the weekend in Park Township, St. Joseph County Animal Control and Park Township officials are struggling to provide proper care for the animals. The number of cats involved is significantly higher than facilities typically handle, and supplies are stretched thin.
Additional thefts were reported over the weekend in southern St. Joseph County, including the theft of a 1989 Jeep Wrangler, which was stolen from a barn in White Pigeon Township early Saturday morning.
As a result of the investigation, over 140 cats ranging from newborn to adult cats were seized from the inside the home. It took officials several hours to capture the animals. Several of the cats appeared to have health issues and will be evaluated by animal control staff and other professionals. It was determined that two of cats needed to be euthanized immediately.
With help from the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority, Venue 45 and Kelsey Block Brewing Company are considering establishing an "outdoor social zone," which permits two or more businesses with active liquor licenses to create an adjacent, common zone with outdoor seating.
"Nine years ago, my family and I said our final goodbyes to our home on East Street in Three Rivers and moved into the big world beyond the triple ripples. Well actually, we moved up to Portage, which I suppose isn't really that big or that far away, but the move was the closing of one chapter of our lives and the beginning of another. We lived in TR for over 12 years, years that were undoubtedly some of the happiest of my life."
St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough is uncertain about what he'll do next after falling to challenger David Marvin in Tuesday's primary election but the Three Rivers native expressed gratitude for his supporters, and admiration for his hometown in an interview with Watershed Voice this week.
At a Three Rivers Community Schools (TRCS) Board of Education work session Monday, board members discussed the latest updates to the district’s reopening plan, which it will formally adopt at a special meeting on Wednesday, August 12.
