‘Solarize Kalamazoo’ homeowners event scheduled for November 12

Homeowners interested in learning about solar energy and potentially joining a group discount program can attend a free event hosted by the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association (GLREA) on Tuesday, November 12. The event will take place from 7-8 p.m. at Brewery Outré, located at 567 E Ransom St. in Kalamazoo.
“Solarize Kalamazoo” will educate homeowners about solar energy and how they could benefit from joining a group-buy program. The program, organized by GLREA, aims to secure discounted solar panel installation costs for homeowners who participate.
GLREA, a non-profit solar energy advocacy organization, emphasizes the program’s role in strengthening community connections while promoting environmental and financial benefits. The Solarize Kalamazoo program leverages peer-to-peer influence to encourage the adoption of solar energy, ultimately reducing reliance on traditional outreach methods.
The event will provide a platform for homeowners to interact with solar installers and learn firsthand about the process of transitioning to solar power. By fostering a collaborative environment, GLREA hopes to accelerate the adoption of solar energy in Kalamazoo and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Chair Jeremiah Jones immediately interrupted him.
“I’m gonna hold you up right there, man, and I’m gonna subtract that from your time and you can have your full three minutes,” Jones said. “But from you right now till anybody else that wants to come up, if you talk to anybody specifically, it’s off limits and I’m gonna end it.”
Jones added he would turn off the mics of anyone who uses personal attacks at any of the commissioners.
“I’m not gonna be intimidated by you,” Stecker responded before continuing.
The back-and-forth highlighted the strain between the prosecutor’s office and some commissioners, tensions that prosecutors said have been building for months.
