St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office says to ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’

The campaign starts Wednesday. It is illegal to drive in Michigan with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is increasing patrols to get impaired drivers off the road during the holiday season. The agency will participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement period from Wednesday, December 11 though Wednesday, January 1.

Deputies will be out in force looking for motorists under the influence of drugs and alcohol. It is illegal to drive in Michigan with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. Drivers can be arrested at any BAC level if an officer believes they are impaired.

Nearly 47% of Michigan roadway fatalities in 2021 involved alcohol or drugs, per the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is supported with federal traffic safety funds provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
