Kalamazoo hosting quarterly recycling event
The City of Kalamazoo emphasizes that the EPS foam and electronics recycling event is available to residents once every quarter. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with drop-offs.

Kalamazoo residents can drop off Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam, unwanted electronics, and oral care products for recycling this Saturday, December 28, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mayors’ Riverfront Park. The City of Kalamazoo is hosting the event, which aims to provide responsible waste disposal options for residents.
Accepted EPS foam includes packaging from gifts and appliances, but must be labeled with a “6” symbol. Food containers should be rinsed, wiped, or cleaned before drop-off. The foam should break if you bend it. Unwanted electronics such as computers, laptops, printers, and mobile devices are also accepted. However, document shredding will not be available at this event.
A variety of oral care products can be recycled, including used or empty toothpaste tubes and caps, toothbrushes, toothpaste cartons, toothbrush outer packaging, and floss containers. All toothpaste tubes and caps, toothbrushes, toothpaste cartons, toothbrush outer packaging, and floss containers must be empty, clean, and dry.
Residents are reminded that styrofoam, packing peanuts, straws, and lids are not accepted. Additionally, smoke detectors, items containing liquid or freon, glass, rubber, and paper are not permitted.
The City of Kalamazoo emphasizes that the EPS foam and electronics recycling event is available to residents once every quarter. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with drop-offs. Please do not leave material unattended outside of the collection times.
Dedicated volunteers make this program possible. For more information about the event, residents can visit www.kalamazoocity.org/EPS.
