Glen Oaks Board of Trustees complete first-year review of President Dr. Bryan Newton

Glen Oaks Community College’s Board of Trustees has completed its first-year review of President Dr. Bryan Newton, awarding him an overall rating of “outstanding.”
Newton, who began his tenure on July 22, 2024, was evaluated on fiscal management, leadership, institutional performance, external and internal relations, personal qualities, and relations with the board. Trustees also reviewed his progress towards goals set at the start of his presidency and his ability to “advance the mission and vision of the college.”
Since taking office, Newton has advanced several initiatives, including expanding workforce training partnerships, strengthening the enrollment outreach, and guiding the college through its Higher Learning Commission accreditation review — reaffirmed in March 2025, extending the college’s accredited status through 2034-35.
Newton’s efforts have also supported progress on Glen Oak’s multi-phase campus renovation project, aligning facility upgrades with evolving student and program needs. A major phase of that project — covering the Learning Commons, art studios, and allied health and IT labs — was completed in fiscal year 2024, with $3.5 million in state funding and $3.8 million from the college contributing to the work.
Enrollment continues to be a critical focus. Newton said about 55% of Glen Oaks students are high schoolers enrolled through dual-enrollment partnerships, and he emphasized the need to broaden the college’s reach among traditional college-age students.
“I’m grateful for the support of the Board of Trustees, my leadership team, and the entire Glen Oaks community,” Newton said. “This first year has been about listening, learning, and working together to build on the college’s strong foundation.”
