Body found in wooded area off Second Avenue in Three Rivers

The Three Rivers Police Department were called to the 300 block of Second Ave. Monday after an individual walking their dog reported discovering a body.

A body was discovered early Monday afternoon in a wooded area off Second Avenue in Three Rivers.

The Three Rivers Police Department were called to the 300 block of Second Avenue at approximately 1:17 p.m. after an individual walking their dog reported finding what they thought to be a body. Watershed Voice spoke to Three Rivers Det. Sgt. Sam Smallcombe Monday after the TRPD and St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department processed the scene.

Smallcombe said the body was decomposed and neither the identity or gender could be determined at the scene. An autopsy is expected to be conducted by a forensic pathologist Tuesday in Kalamazoo, and the TRPD should have more to report in the coming days.

The incident remains under investigation.
