Household hazardous waste collection at county fairgrounds returns next week

Residents of St. Joseph County will have an opportunity to rid themselves of hazardous household waste and recycle their old electronics, tires, paper and appliances next weekend.

Residents of St. Joseph County will have an opportunity to rid themselves of hazardous household waste and recycle their old electronics, tires, paper and appliances next weekend.

Beginning at 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 23 county residents can drop off their pool chemicals, pesticides, batteries, oil-based paints and more at the Fairgrounds in Centreville. Participants are asked to use the Main Street (M-86) entrance, where cars will be allowed to line up at 8 a.m. but not before. Those using this service are asked to wear a mask for the safety of the event’s volunteers.

The program is offered by the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners and the County Solid Waste Committee. Those with questions are encouraged to call (269) 467-5617 for further information. Donations are accepted and appreciated to help “defray the cost of this service.”
