Authorities investigating explosion inside Three Rivers home

The Three Rivers Police and Three Rivers Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire Sunday in the 1500 block of Eighth St. but upon arrival discovered no fire. Authorities would quickly determine that an explosion, not a fire, had occurred at the residence.

The Three Rivers Police and Three Rivers Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire Sunday in the 1500 block of Eighth St. but upon arrival discovered no fire. Authorities would quickly determine that an explosion, not a fire, had occurred at the residence.

Officers performed a sweep of the home just before midnight Sunday and didn’t locate anyone injured inside. Shortly after the initial call, an individual arrived at the Three Rivers Health emergency room with serious injuries sustained in the explosion. The person is currently listed in critical condition.

The TRPD and Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team are investigating the incident, and ask that anyone with information regarding the explosion contact the Three Rivers Police at (269) 278-1235 or St. Joseph County Dispatch at (269) 467-4195.
