Summer Movie Nights are returning to downtown Three Rivers next week, giving residents a chance to enjoy a free movie under the stars at the city’s new amphitheater.

The Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority will kick off this year’s series on Thursday, June 18, with a screening of the 1988 comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The movie is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. at the Three Rivers Amphitheater on Joshua Drive.

Community members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, family members, and friends for the outdoor showing. Organizers recommend arriving early to find a spot before the movie begins.

Admission is free.

The event is sponsored by Useless Creatures Brewing Company and the Three Rivers Public Library.

The movie night is among the latest public events hosted at the amphitheater, which opened last October after years of planning, research, and grant writing. The downtown venue was developed by the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority as part of broader efforts to create a gathering space for concerts, festivals, and other community events along the riverfront.

At the amphitheater’s grand opening celebration last fall, DDA board member John “Charlie” Wolgamood said the project was intended to bring more arts, entertainment, and activity to downtown.

“Vibrancy comes from energy from arts and music entertainment,” Wolgamood told Watershed Voice. “The more we can do music, it provides energy for people who want to come downtown.”
