A 38-year-old Centreville man is facing multiple charges after he led police on a chase Friday that ended with the suspect nude and in handcuffs.

Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a vehicle on Friday, December 9 that left the scene of a property damage incident in Centreville. The driver was located traveling on M86, and led police on a chase through Colon Township causing property damage and nearly striking other vehicles along the way. Eventually the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed onto private property in Colon.

That’s where things took an odd turn.

Upon exiting the vehicle, the man began stripping his clothes off until he was nude. While deputies were giving him verbal commands the suspect appeared to be compliant but then suddenly he struck a deputy in the face. The 38-year-old was subdued and put in handcuffs after a brief struggle.

The suspect was transported to Sturgis Hospital where he was medically cleared, and is currently lodged in St. Joseph County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, assault on a peace officer, resisting and obstructing, indecent exposure, and driving with a suspected license.

Deputies were assisted by Colon Police, Michigan DNR, the Colon Fire Department, and LifeCare Ambulance.
