Driver strikes tree in Milton Township crash

A man sustained non-life threatening injuries after his vehicle struck a tree in Milton Township on Sunday, May 19, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

A man sustained non-life threatening injuries after his vehicle struck a tree in Milton Township on Sunday, May 19, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say 27-year-old Leon House was traveling northeast on Bell Road south of US-12 at a high rate of speed as he entered a curve, losing control of his vehicle, and striking a tree.

House was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment. Deputies say House was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of crash, and they suspect alcohol may have been a factor.

The crash remains under investigation. Niles Township Fire Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
