Vehicle crosses centerline, strikes oncoming car in Cass County
One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning at Brownsville and M-62 in Jefferson Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning at Brownsville and M-62 in Jefferson Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say 42-year-old Gila Wigton of Marcellus was traveling eastbound on Brownsville Street when he crossed the centerline into the westbound lane, hitting the vehicle of 23-year-old Matthew Dyda of Edwardsburg.
Wigton was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with injuries sustained in the crash. Both men were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol and drugs are considered factors in the crash.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Edwardsburg Ambulance and the Cassopolis Police Department.

Flock Safety’s license plate reader system has drawn national criticism from civil liberties groups, particularly the American Civil Liberties Union, which argues the technology enables a form of mass surveillance that extends beyond its original purpose.
Boling said there is no “backdoor access” to the system, including for federal agencies such as ICE, and that any data sharing must be approved by the department.
