Multi-vehicle head-on crash Monday in Sturgis results in minor injuries

A 19-year-old male heading eastbound on Chicago Road fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Sturgis Department of Public Safety.

A multi-vehicle head-on crash Monday in Sturgis resulted in one individual being transported to the emergency room for minor injuries.

The Sturgis Department of Public Safety was dispatched at 2:22 p.m. Monday to the area of Chicago Road and Michigan Avenue. It was determined that a 19-year-old male heading eastbound on Chicago Road fell asleep at the wheel.

The car driven by the 19-year-old crossed the center line. It sideswiped one car before hitting another vehicle head-on, the department of public safety reported.

The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Sturgis Hospital: Emergency Room for treatment of minor injuries. Other vehicle occupants were evaluated and released on scene.
