Three Rivers will host ‘A Toast to Women Voters: Past, Present and Future’

Organizer Carol Higgins said it should not be forgotten how hard-fought the right to vote was and how important it is to keep fighting to keep it.

A group of St. Joseph County voters will gather Sunday, November 3 to celebrate the centennial of the 19th Amendment, which granted women in America the right to vote.

“A Toast to Women Voters: Past, Present and Future,” will take place from 3-6 p.m. in an open house format at the UAW Local 2093 Union Hall, 15802 Hoffman Rd., Three Rivers.

The event aims to honor the women who fought for voting rights and to emphasize the importance of continued civic engagement.

“While a hundred years passing may seem like a long time, we don’t want to forget how hard-fought this right was and how important it is to continue fighting to keep it,” organizer Carol Higgins said.

Organizers will be available to answer voting questions, explain new voting options, and celebrate those who have made a plan to vote. The event is free and family-friendly, and voters of all ages are welcome. A toast will be held at 4:30 pm, with snacks served throughout the afternoon.

The organizers also emphasized the importance of voting accessibility.

“It’s not common knowledge that even on Monday of election week, it’s not too late to register to vote! We want to connect, inform, and help our fellow community members, while celebrating the voices behind the 19th amendment,” said Dan Moyle, a fellow organizer.
