Farrand Hall Bakery & Café launches casual weekend dinners in Colon

Each weekend, the café serves a small menu of three entrées: its popular short ribs, black garlic roasted chicken, and a vegetarian pasta. All dinners are $22.

Farrand Hall Bakery & Café in Colon is adding something new to its offerings: Friday and Saturday night dinners.

Owner James Gray said the idea came directly from customers. “We started a few weeks ago because so many folks kept saying they wished Farrand Hall had a more casual offering,” Gray told Watershed Voice. “What they wanted was high quality food locally.”

Each weekend, the café serves a small menu of three entrées: its popular short ribs, black garlic roasted chicken, and a vegetarian pasta. All dinners are $22. The chicken and short ribs will be prepared in different ways throughout the season depending on what produce is available, while September’s vegetarian option is a creamy hazelnut pasta. A roasted onion dip is also available, along with beverages from the café’s cooler.

Service runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at Farrand Hall, located at 216 E. State St. Guests order at the counter, then staff deliver the food to the table. The café can seat about 24 people indoors, with a handful of counter spots and additional outdoor seating when weather permits. Takeout is also available.

Gray emphasized that the dinners are meant to be approachable. “The goal is to keep it super casual and affordable so people can eat out every weekend if they want,” he said.

No reservations or tickets are required.
