Pursuit of stolen vehicle through three townships ends with arrest

The pursuit of a stolen vehicle took deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department through three townships Tuesday.

The pursuit of a stolen vehicle took deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department through three townships Tuesday.

Officers were called to the 64000 block of Burgener Rd. in Florence Township Tuesday after a car was reported stolen. Authorities obseved the vehicle leaving the scene, and initiated a pursuit. Deputies and officers from the White Pigeon Police Department successfully deployed stop sticks several times during the pursuit, which traveled through Florence, Sherman, and Nottawa Townships.

The driver, a 39-year-old man from Lagrange. Indiana, eventually crashed into a utility pole. He exited the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended and taken into custody.

He is currently lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of motor vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding, and felonious assault. The White Pigeon and Constantine Police Departments assisted in the pursuit.
