Local Halloween events preview for Cass, Kalamazoo, and St. Joseph Counties
Everything from spooktacular festivities to traditional trick or treating will be offered between now and next Thursday.
Whether you like to celebrate Halloween on October 31 or before it, cities and communities throughout Watershed Voice’s news area have many ways to celebrate the holiday.
Sturgis – The Sturgis Spooktacular Fest takes place from 4-8 p.m. today. It includes downtown trick or treating from 4-6 p.m., followed by a “Hocus Pocus” showing at 6:30 at the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts. Admission is $2 per person.
Adult downtown trick or treating begins at 6 p.m. tonight. Participating businesses will offer extended shopping, snacks, and drinks. The fest will also include food truck vendors on North Street, a scare zone on Pleasant Avenue, wagon rides, and outdoor vendors.
A trunk or treat will take place from 5-7 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, at Radiant Life Church. The church is located at 907 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis.
A trick or treat parade is scheduled for Halloween itself, Thursday, October 31. Beginning at 3:30 p.m. and lasting until 5 p.m., the parade takes place at Thurston Woods Village, 307 N. Franks Ave., Sturgis.
Trick or treating on Halloween in Sturgis will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Three Rivers – YMCA Camp Eberhart will host its final Drive-Thru Trunk-or-Treat from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. The camp is located at 10481 Camp Eberhart Rd. in Three Rivers.
Three Rivers Moose Lodge #474 will host its own Trunk or Treat for children and families from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. The lodge is located at 110 Day Dr. in Three Rivers.
Moose Lodge #474 will also host an adult Halloween party beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. The event includes music by Legends and Legacy. It’s open to members and qualified guests, according to the party’s Facebook page. Three Rivers Moose Lodge #474 is located at 110 Day Dr. in Three Rivers.
An additional Trunk or Treat is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, at Edgewood Health & Rehab, 55378 Wilbur Rd. in Three Rivers.
Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Centreville – Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Constantine – Harvey House’s annual adult Halloween party begins at 9 p.m. Saturday. It will include Spork Fight performing from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., a midnight costume contest, and more. Harvey House is also hosting its first ever Trunk or Treat for children at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Constantine Township Library will welcome trick or treaters from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 31. The library is hosting a costume contest, with voting being done online. Winners will be announced the week of Monday, November 4.
Mendon – Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Cassopolis – Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Dowagiac – Trick or Treat in Downtown Dowagiac is taking place from 12-2 p.m. Saturday in the central business district on Front Street.
Southwest Michigan College’s Dowagiac campus will have trick or treating from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, at the Student Activity Center. The public is invited to join in. Enter off of Dailey Road.
Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 6-7 p.m. Thursday.
Edwardsburg – Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Schoolcraft – Connections Community Church’s Trunk or Treat will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday, October 27. The church is located at 11500 U.S. 131 in Schoolcraft.
Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Vicksburg – Lakeland Creative Beginnings is holding its annual Trunk or Treat at 6 p.m. tonight. It takes place at 10442 S. Sprinkle Rd. in Schoolcraft.
Trunk or Treat on the Farm returns for a second year from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, October 27. It takes place at Oswalt Family Farms, 10144 XY Ave. in Vicksburg.
Trick or treating on Halloween will take place from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 31.
Kalamazoo – The “SkeleTour Spooktacular!” is going on now through Thursday, October 31. Since October 5, more than 50 eerie skeletons have taken over downtown. Each are sponsored by local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.
“Brought to you by Metro Toyota and Downtown Kalamazoo Shops, this month-long celebration invites you to explore the spooky displays, bring the kids for Boos In The Zoo, enjoy the Bones & Boogie Bash-an adults only costume contest/dance party, join the Creep & Crawl Bar Crawl, and win devilishly delightful prizes,” an event preview states.
“Haunting of Hill House,” adapted from Shirley Jackson’s novel, premieres this weekend at the Western Michigan University’s Williams Theatre. While Friday’s 7:30 p.m. show is sold out, tickets are still available for performances on Saturday and Sunday, and Thursday, October 31-Sunday, November 3. The Williams Theatre is located at 1903 W. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo.
“Enter the twisted halls of Hill House as the Williams Theatre is transformed into an eerie haunted house to immerse guests in the thrill of this frightening mystery. Join us this Halloween in the eerily transformed theatre to step into the world of ‘Haunting of Hill House,’ and for a spine-chilling night of supernatural suspense,” WMU Theatre stated.
Comstock Township Parks and Rec’s Boo Bash takes place from 12-3 p.m. Saturday at Merrill Park, 5845 Comstock Ave. in Kalamazoo. Guests can walk through the game trail to win candy and prizes. The Boo Bash is recommended for ages 2-12, but all are welcome. Please bring your own treat bag.
Damn it, Janet! A live, shadow cast performance of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Auditorium, 1341 Theatre Dr. in Kalamazoo. Tickets are $26 for all seats, $51 for a VIP experience including light refreshments, audience participation bags, and getting to meet and be photographed with the shadow cast. The VIP experience is limited to 200 guests.
Crawl With US will hold The Official Halloween Bar Crawl – Kalamazoo – 7th Annual from 4 p.m.-12 a.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $25 for individuals and are available by going to crawlwith.us/kalamazoo/halloween. The crawl includes 2-3 shots or drinks included, no cover at all bars, and access to a $1,000 national costume contest.
Wild Bull, 139 S. Edwards St. in Kalamazoo, is having a Costume Bash from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday. Ticket prices range from $20 and above, with $100, $250, and $1,000 cash prizes for the best outfits.
Wild Bull will also hold a Freak Show Costume Party from 9 p.m. 2 a.m. Thursday, October 31. Tickets start at $10, with $100, $250, and $500 cash prizes for the best outfits.
