Kalamazoo invites residents to shape future with strategic goals survey

The city’s Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 planning process is currently in the “Imagine It!” phase. The city wants broad, high-level feedback from the community.

The City of Kalamazoo is currently inviting residents to participate in shaping the city’s future by providing feedback on its current strategic goals. The city has made a survey available online, aiming to gather community input on the goals outlined in the previous Strategic Vision, with a focus on updating them for the next 10 years.

This survey is part of the city’s Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 planning process, which is currently in the “Imagine It!” phase. This phase, the first of five, focuses on gathering broad, high-level feedback from the community. The city aims to develop a new Strategic Vision and Master Plan through this process.

In addition to the Strategic Goal Survey, residents can participate in the “Imagine It!” Survey, reflecting on the past 10 years in Kalamazoo, identifying improvements and ongoing challenges. The city also encourages residents to participate in “Meetings on the Go” using a provided toolkit to host discussions about the city’s future with friends and family. Another avenue for engagement is through “Imagine Kalamazoo Reads,” a community reading of Charles Montgomery’s “Happy City,” exploring how Kalamazoo’s Master Plan and Strategic Vision can promote happiness and well-being.

The “Imagine It!” phase is scheduled to conclude in December, with a report provided by City staff at the end of the phase. The “Plan It!” phase will commence in January, focusing on specific goals for each area. The city is committed to aligning the new Strategic Vision and Master Plan with the community’s vision and priorities.
