City of Sturgis to conduct one-time brush pickup beginning November 17

Residents are asked to place brush and tree limbs in the right-of-way or terrace area, off the street, by 7 a.m. on November 17 to ensure pickup. Crews will make one pass through the city, starting on the north side and working south. Brush placed out after crews have passed may not be collected.

The City of Sturgis Department of Public Services will begin a one-time brush pickup on Monday, November 17, according to a press release from the City of Sturgis.

The special collection was scheduled in response to a large number of fallen limbs following heavy snowfall over the weekend. Crews also resumed leaf pickup on Monday, November 10, continuing where they left off the previous Friday.

Because brush and leaf pickup will occur at the same time, residents are asked to create separate piles for brush and leaves in the right-of-way or terrace area.

As with all brush pickups, the following rules apply:

  • Limbs, branches, or brush material larger than 4 inches in diameter will not be collected.
  • Limbs, branches, or brush material longer than 8 feet in length will not be collected.
  • Grass clippings, roots, thorn-bearing branches, tree trunks, stumps, and construction materials will not be collected.
  • A limit of one truckload of material per parcel will be collected and hauled away.
  • Materials must be neatly stacked on the terrace away from obstructions such as power poles, guy wires, signposts, and valve boxes.

Leaf pickup will continue, weather permitting, through the end of November. Crews have begun on the north side of town and are working south. Once they have completed a full sweep through the city, they will begin again on the north side.
