Kalamazoo’s Democracy Fest to bring ‘Power in the Park’ this weekend

The event, themed “Power in the Park!”, is organized by Indivisible Greater Kalamazoo and Paw Paw Indivisible — two local chapters of the national Indivisible.org network. Lead organizer Ken Greschak said the festival is a direct response to “efforts to dismantle our nation’s democratic institutions and to defund critical federal programs and services.”

Big Changes Coming in City Planning for Downtown Kalamazoo

A major overhaul is in the works for a document that helps set the future character of downtown Kalamazoo. At a regular meeting of the Kalamazoo City Commission this past Monday, City Planner Christina Anderson detailed proposed changes to the city code that will introduce a concept called form-based zoning to the city. A public hearing on the proposed changes is scheduled to take place this coming Monday, November 2.
