Glen Oaks Community College, University of Olivet partnering to benefit adult students
The GO2UO program aims to address the challenges faced by adult learners returning to school. It will offer dual enrollment opportunities, among other benefits.

Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC), Centreville, and The University of Olivet (UO), Olivet, have been awarded a $1.068 million grant to support the launch of the GO2UO program.
The grant, provided by the Michigan Center for Adult College Success, will fund the creation of a seamless pathway for adult students to transition from associate degrees at GOCC to bachelor’s degrees at UO.
The GO2UO program aims to address the challenges faced by adult learners returning to school. The program will offer dual enrollment opportunities and aligned support services to help students navigate the transfer process. This initiative seeks to increase adult student enrollment, retention, and graduation rates, ultimately contributing to Michigan’s Sixty by 30 goal.
“At Glen Oaks, we understand that returning to school can be a challenge for adults who are balancing work, family, and education,” said Adam Cloutier, vice president of academics at GOCC.
The GO2UO program will provide a clear and supported pathway for these students to achieve their educational goals.
The partnership aligns with the university’s strategic Olivet 2030 plan, emphasizing expanded adult learner access to higher education. The partnership builds upon the strengths of both institutions. GOCC will expand its reach in southwest Michigan, while UO will further its commitment to serving non-traditional students.
“This collaboration between GOCC and UO is a model for how community colleges and universities can work together to support adult students,” said Paul Burkhardt, provost of UO.
The grant will fund new roles at both institutions, including a Career and Transfer Coordinator at GOCC and a Student Services Coordinator at UO. These dedicated professionals will guide students through the academic journey and ensure a smooth transition between institutions.
The GO2UO program will offer flexible class schedules, online course options, and integrated advising services. The program also emphasizes credit for prior learning, allowing students to accelerate their degree completion.
Both institutions view the partnership as an opportunity to strengthen ties with local employers. GOCC and UO will collaborate to create career paths that align with regional workforce needs, preparing graduates for high-demand careers in business, social work, and criminal justice.
“Our partnership with UO allows us to connect students with opportunities that might have seemed out of reach before while also contributing to the local economy by providing a skilled workforce,” Cloutier said.
