A pedestrian was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in Sturgis, according to the Sturgis Department of Public Safety (SDPS).

In a Facebook post today, the department said emergency responders were dispatched around 9 p.m. on Monday, March 17 to the area of South Centerville Road and Forrest Avenue for a reported car-versus-pedestrian crash. Fire Division personnel transported the victim to Sturgis Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead despite extensive lifesaving efforts.

The Police Division remained at the scene to investigate and requested assistance from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Division. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
