This week Cass County launched an email subscription service that will provide updates on upcoming local elections. The emails will include absentee ballot deadline reminders, ballot information, and other election notices.
The ordinance, intended to improve housing options for veterans, outlines conditions for different-sized veterans housing facilities, including restrictions, liberties, and permitted uses. The aforementioned restrictions sparked strong reactions from some Three Rivers City Commissioners.
The commission also expects to select a new city manager by October 20, with contract negotiations to follow.
This commission will meet this evening to discuss a proposed zoning ordinance for veterans housing, a purchase contract for an aerial ladder fire truck, and funding to sponsor a new police cadet.
Commissioners will decide, among other things, whether to approve a $129,800 contract with All Things Diverse to conduct a DEI assessment for the city. A DEI Council established in late 2024 recommended that assessments be conducted every two to three years.
Music will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday and continue until 10 p.m., when the party shifts to the East Alley for an after-party performance by Faux Beamage.
“Gary Nissley, who runs a local trash service here in town, told us that without recycling, the amount of trash people set out — and the size of the Toters they’ll need — will increase drastically. In my own family of six, our recycle bin is full every week, while our trash is just a couple of small bags. Most of what we generate goes into recycling, and if that ends, everyone’s trash bill will go up,” Aaron Miller said.
The path to publishing began when Camarillo shared her work publicly for the first time in 2024 at a small open mic night in a church basement.
“We’re always looking for the dead trees, the dirty water — the ugly spots nobody else is pointing a camera at. Because when I say I’m a Michigan filmmaker, it’s absolutely not in the vein of Pure Michigan tourism ads. That’s not it.”
The Third District Commissioner seat will appear on the ballot, but no candidates are running. The seat is currently held by Chris Abel, who is not seeking reelection.
