Local residents to “Stand Up for Science” at Main Street Bridge in Niles

“Science isn’t abstract — it affects our families, our hospitals, our water, our weather forecasts and our jobs,” organizers said in a statement. “We chose this location intentionally. Every day, people cross this bridge seeking medical care made possible by decades of scientific research. This rally is about recognizing that connection and standing up for the science that keeps our community healthy and strong.”

Community members will gather on the Main Street Bridge in Niles, Michigan, at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, as part of a nationwide Stand Up for Science rally taking place the same day in Washington, D.C.

The gathering aligns with the national movement organized by Stand Up for Science, which calls for protecting scientific research, evidence-based policy and public investment in science and health.

Organizers selected the Main Street Bridge as a symbolic location because it leads directly to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital Niles, highlighting the role science plays in medicine, public health and everyday life.
